#TRT - Return of the Power Suit

With fashion week (AKA fashion month) coming to a close, we’re honing in on the major trends for the next few seasons. We covered minimalism and maximalism a couple weeks ago, but this week we’d like to introduce a fun revival: the power suit.

I know, I know – it’s crazy to think the power suit of the 80’s is making a comeback. It’s so retro. Giant mobile phones come to mind. Aren’t workplaces getting more casual? Well, the multi-piece sets dominated, from street style to runway. And come to think of it, it does make a lot of sense.

Music and fashion are both showing signs of nostalgia for the 80’s in general. Also, the past year has served as a platform for discussions about gender neutrality and female empowerment. (This is a shift, not a trend.) In short, the stage has been set for the perfect power-suit comeback.

These trending ensembles aren’t identical to those of the eighties, of course. This time around, the suits aren’t just for work and they’re anything but traditional. There’s been a modern reboot, and these suits are more powerful than ever.

Even though the style’s been upgraded, we should’ve seen this coming. Our mobile phones are getting bigger again to complete the look, after all.
